Introduction

Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS) is an independent Muslim Faith School aged 5 to 16. Our school is committed to fostering academic excellence, the promoting strong Islamic values and the developing of British values including respect, tolerance, democracy and equality.

We provide a broad and balanced education combining the National Curriculum with our Islamic ethos. We aim to admit pupils who will benefit from and contribute positively to the school community.

1. Admission Procedure

There are three steps to apply for a place at OIGS:

1. Complete and submit the official Registration Form.
2. Provide a copy of the Birth Certificate or photo page of your son’s passport as proof of date of birth.
3. Submit a non-refundable registration fee of £60.00. Cheques should be made payable to “OIGS”.
4. Documents and fees can be submitted in person, online or posted to the school address.

2. Equality

OIGS welcomes applications from all backgrounds and is committed to the principles of equality and non discrimination, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

We treat every application equally, regardless of:

• Ethnicity, race, or nationality
• Religion or belief
• Culture or language
• Disability or special educational need
• Sexual orientation or gender identity
• Political or other opinion

3. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We welcome pupils with special educational needs or disabilities, provided we are able to meet their needs within our available resources. Parents must disclose any known or suspected SEND circumstances during the application process.

Parents are encouraged to:

• share any existing educational psychologist or medical reports
• discuss any concerns with the school before the entry test

OIGS reserves the right to withdraw a place if key information relating to SEND is not disclosed.
If SEND is identified after admission, we will strive to make necessary provisions. If these are not possible within our setting, we will advise on appropriate alternatives.

4. English as an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL pupils are supported inclusively in class. We:

• provide peer and adult interaction opportunities in English
• use visual aids, ICT, and audio support
• allow assessments in a pupil’s home language where appropriate (e.g., Maths)

5. Applications from Non-British Nationals

We welcome applications from non-British nationals legally residing in the UK. No Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate is required for entry.

6. Bursaries

A limited number of bursaries available for pupils entering Year 7 only, based on financial need. Bursaries are available only to permanent UK residents. Parents must:

• Apply for the bursary at the time of application
• Submit annual proof of financial circumstances during the pupil’s school career
• Bursary applications after admission are not considered

7. Admission Integrity

Providing false or misleading information will result in cancellation or withdrawal of a place. If already enrolled, the pupil will be required to leave the school immediately.
We understand some applicants may face challenging circumstances, such as:

• Illness during assessments
• Bereavement or family difficulty
• Language barriers or SEND

In such cases, the school may request additional documentation, such as:

• Medical or educational reports
• Supporting information from previous schools

8. Offer of a Place

• Offers will be made in writing
• The school is not required to provide reasons for declined applications
• Appeals will not be considered
• Complaints may be submitted in writing within 7 days of the admission decision

9. Monitoring and Evaluation

The effectiveness of this policy will be monitored and evaluated by the Deputy Head Teacher in collaboration with the Director of Admissions. The policy is reviewed every two years, or earlier if required.
