About the Programme

At Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS), pupils age 5- 16 follow a Personal Development programme called ‘Fundamental British Islamic (FBI) Personal Development Programme’ which incorporates elements of Personal, Social, Health Education, Careers Education and Guidance. This is delivered by form teachers through guidance lessons supported by assemblies and FBI Days. Through a range of exciting activities in lessons, visiting speakers, workshops, themed days and the opportunity to complete one week of work experience in Year 10, they are encouraged to develop the skills and understanding that are required to lead a confident, healthy and independent life. Pupils are empowered to develop mutual respect and the confidence to take control of their present and future. This is nurtured through a proactive, specialised and caring environment which promotes consistency, stability and respect for all.

The Leadership Curriculum
The Leadership Curriculum
Some See Students We See Future Leaders

At Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS), we believe that leadership is not confined to a title or position, but is a set of values, habits and attitudes that can be cultivated in every pupil. Our Leadership Curriculum is designed to develop confident, compassionate and resilient young people who will lead with purpose, integrity and service — both within our school community and in the wider world.

Transforming Individuals and School Culture

The Leadership Curriculum is more than a programme — it is a culture-shaping force. Through a broad range of subjects and experiences, delivered by our professionally trained teaching staff, pupils are empowered to grow in character, confidence and competence.

We collaborate with respected leadership initiatives, such as Growing Leaders, to embed leadership principles across the curriculum and ensure that pupils are equipped to influence positively, serve their communities and lead by example. Our mission begins by developing self-leadership and personal responsibility, laying the foundation for wider leadership impact.

Aims of the Leadership Curriculum

Our leadership provision is built on the belief that every pupil has the potential to lead. We aim to:

  • Foster a positive school culture through leadership rooted in values and integrity
  • Equip pupils with real-world leadership skills that resonate with their lives today
  • Build resilience, initiative, commitment and emotional intelligence
  • Prepare pupils to take on leadership roles both in and beyond school
  • Support character development through regular teaching, reflection and responsibility
  • Develop leadership through structured curricular and extracurricular experiences
Curriculum Design and Delivery

c. Cross-Curricular Projects
Leadership is further nurtured through interdisciplinary projects that challenge pupils to collaborate, communicate and lead. These opportunities allow pupils to apply their leadership skills in meaningful, real-life contexts — for personal growth and community benefit.

The Impact Accelerators – Empowering Young People to Create Change

At Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS), we believe in nurturing compassionate, resourceful and responsible young citizens who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Through our Social Enterprise and Community Service Programme, we empower our pupils to take meaningful action, guided by core Islamic values and a deep sense of civic responsibility.

Our mission is to develop not only academic excellence, but also moral integrity, empathy, resilience and leadership. This programme plays a vital role in our whole-school commitment to character education and the development of life-long social skills.

A Curriculum of Service and Innovation

The Social Enterprise element is embedded within our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum and is further enhanced through workshops, assemblies, cross-curricular projects and enrichment days. Pupils are encouraged to identify real-world problems, design practical solutions and lead impact-driven initiatives that serve the wider community.

These initiatives focus on improving lives within the school community, the local neighbourhood and wider society. Pupils work alongside local experts, community leaders and faith-based charities to explore real-life solutions to social challenges. These collaborative ventures create a powerful model of education that is active, empathetic and deeply rooted in social responsibility.
