Our Journey
From One Small Room to a Legacy of Light
In 2011, when Trafford Tuition Classes first opened its doors, there was no grand building, no large team, no polished signboard outside. There was only a small room, a handful of chairs, and a heart full of hope.
Hope that one day this little place could change lifes.
Back then, the world did not see what we saw. For others, it was just a tuition centre but for us, it was a beginning. The start of something that lived quietly in our heart, something that whispered, “One day, this will be more.”
Every evening, the room filled with the soft rustle of notebooks and the nervous determination of students trying their best. Some struggled, some doubted themselves, some had almost given up. But we didn’t give up on them. We stayed late, we explained again and again, we believed for them until they learned to believe in themselves.
We watched shy children grow confident.
We watched struggling students discover ability.
We watched parents slowly place their trust in us
One result, One improvement, One smile at a time
And with every success, the dream grew a little louder.
Of course, there were hard days. Days when the room felt too small, when exhaustion
wrapped itself around our shoulders, when finances were tight, when we wondered if the
dream was too big for the reality we lived in.
But then came those moments the ones that made everything worth it.
The tears of a child who passed.
The joy of a parent who whispered, “Thank you.”
The quiet pride in our heart that said, Keep going.
And so we did.
Year after year, Trafford Tuition Classes became more than a centre. It became
a community
a family
a home
where children found confidence, guidance, and kindness.
But deep down, we knew the journey wasn’t complete. We knew Allah had written
something bigger for us and we could feel it unfolding slowly, beautifully, with every
passing year.
Then came the moment when the dream finally spoke out loud:
“It’s time.
Build a school
Give them more.”
And so, with trembling hands but an unshakable heart, we took the leap.
We didn’t just expand
We didn’t just grow
We didn’t just build walls
We transformed
We blossomed
We built a future
This is not just a school; it is a promise ; a promise to guide children not only academically, but spiritually and morally, shaping them with the values of compassion, discipline, humility and faith.
And so our slogan was born not as a phrase, but as a truth lived through the entire journey:
“Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
Because that’s what our story has always been about.

Walking through our school Openshaw Islamic Grammar School for the first time feels like entering a long envisioned dream stitched together with years of sacrifice, patience, prayer, and love.
This is more than a journey.
A testament to faith, resilience and the power of never giving up.
Our Mission
The Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said,
“The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim”

Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS) is a Muslim Faith School where we provide every pupil with excellent educational and Islamic values, which is enjoyable, encouraging and safe, enabling them to reach their full potential. We foster a school culture that is derived from Islamic Values (respect, honesty and patience) and Fundamental British Values (democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance), embracing varied cultural, religious, social and ethnic backgrounds.
We provide a creative and engaging curriculum which develops the skills, abilities and talents of our pupils. Our broad and balanced curriculum fosters our pupils’ optimal potential and leadership skills.
We build a school environment that is purpose-built, safe, secure and caring – promoting respectful interactions. We develop people that value and respect their own and others individuality, culture and heritage, building effective partnerships between pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.
Our Values
Our Core Values are derived from Islamic and British values. We aim to educate our pupils by combining Islamic education with British values to help build a united and inclusive community. The Holy Quran teaches love and compassion towards everyone, irrespective of their Religion, Ethnicity, Race, Principles or Gender. We are staunch believers in British values which teach Democracy, Freedom of Individuals, Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.
These core values provide our pupils with a meaningful opportunity towards guiding them to become a well-versed, successful adult in our diverse community.

Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS) is highly committed to promoting and upholding fundamental British values. OIGS is dedicated to serving its community. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi- faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. We actively promote and align with the five fundamental British values as identified by the Department for Education:

Our broad and balanced curriculum reflects these fundamental British values. Our leadership programmes, along with our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities, help pupils develop a strong moral foundation and inspire them to become adults who serve their local community, Britain and beyond.
Democracy
- Student council, selected termly by classes
- Debates concerning age-appropriate topics (during class and after school clubs)
- School Ambassadors
- Classroom communities, creating a democratic culture where pupils, parents/carers and staff connect

Individual Liberty
- PSHE lessons and assemblies help to encourage pupils to identify, value and implement their rights and individual freedoms

The Rule of Law
- Golden rules decided by individual classes
- We celebrate and reward positive behaviour, good attendance and academic achievement. When rules are not followed, appropriate sanctions are applied, in line with our Anti-Bullying, Attendance and Behaviour Policies
- Respect and learning about different faiths such as Christianity, Judiasm, Hinduism, Sikhism; visits to different places of worship
- Organised visits from Local Services, such as the fire service, police and ambulance service
- Visits to establishments, such as the Central Library
Tolerance
- Understanding of different faiths and beliefs by visiting different places of worship
- Encouraging pupils to take part in local community projects, where they are given opportunities to experience different cultures and faiths, learn about diverse beliefs, and connect with people from various backgrounds and ethnicities
- Members of different faiths or religions are also invited to school to share their knowledge and enhance learning within assemblies and in classes
Mutual Respect
- Community projects for the benefit of people who have been suffering of a lack of food, poverty, homeless and loneliness
- Fund raising for charities
- Zero-tolerance approach to bullying
- PSHE lessons on relationships and core values.

At Openshaw Islamic Grammar School (OIGS), we are dedicated to nurturing each child’s success by providing a safe, joyful, welcoming, and empowering learning environment.
a. Pastoral Care
A happy and secure environment is the foundation of successful learning. At OIGS, our dedicated pastoral care system ensures that every pupil is known, valued, and supported throughout their educational journey. To achieve this we introduce our unique programme “I Know You“.
Each “I Know You” group consists of one teacher and seven pupils, fostering strong bonds between pupils and teachers. These groups provide a safe space to connect, build trust and get to know one another. Carefully structured, the programme encourages meaningful dialogue, mutual respect and a sense of belonging. These groups are carefully structured to bring together pupils and encourage.

Our proposed Main Curriculum, Extracurricular activities and Study Tours are helpful in bonding and building a strong relationship between our pupils. This helps them to prepare for any forthcoming challenges during lessons, but also, for activities beyond the classroom.
Islam strongly believes in the dignity of mankind. Therefore, we are keen to provide our pupils with an outstanding pastoral system to encourage equality amongst them. To establish the aforementioned theme, we implemented a House-based System. This structure encourages teamwork, school spirit and a sense of belonging enabling pupils to celebrate diversity while working together harmoniously.
b. Participation and Leadership
At OIGS, pupil voice and involvement are at the heart of school life. We offer a wide range of opportunities for pupils to engage with their peers, contribute ideas and grow as confident, thoughtful leaders.
Active Engagement
Our house system forms the basis for a vibrant calendar of:
- Inter-house competitions

- Team-building activities
- Sport and creative clubs
Developing Leadership Skills
We strongly believe in the equality of all humans, regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, or religion, ensuring everyone is warmly welcomed. All pupils are provided with equal rights and opportunities to encourage them to contribute and participate in group activities, which are vital for developing their leadership skills.
